World Ocean Month 2026

Updated: Jun 4

World Ocean Day unites millions of people, across the globe on the 8th of June (and throughout the year) to protect our blue planet.

One Ocean, One Climate, One Future — Together

In celebration of World Ocean Day, please join the 2026 Beneath the Surface Book Tour with author and creator of the Blue Marble Series, Carissa Welton. Inspired by her own SCUBA diving adventures and Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots youth groups she was mentoring, Carissa created an ocean exploration series for readers ages 10+

Whether it be around SE Michigan or online, all month long you can join a Beneath the Surface Book Tour event to help deepen your ocean literacy skills and love for the sea; the one body of water that connects all life on Earth.

Enjoy various ocean activities throughout the day to mark the special occasion.  Journey from the Detroit River all the way to the world's largest reef system: the Coral Reef Triangle, as well as participate in and/or learn about a number of ways you can defend the ocean from wherever you live.

All ages welcome. I hope to sea you soon!
