You know what the scariest thing in the sea is??
Hint: it's not alive.....
but.......
it never
really
dies....
Not sharks, not barracudas, not eels or stingrays...
In fact, just like every major ocean threat, it comes from the land.
If you said "ghost nets" -- you got it!!!!!!!
But, if you're like "what on Earth are ghost nets?"
Well, ghost nets are abandoned fishing gear that lay "dead" in the ocean, trapping unsuspecting marine life. In 2018, ghost nets were responsible for killing nearly 650,000 marine animals.
Even if animals are lucky enough to escape, they may still die from injuries. Often these circumstances cause a long and painful death.
In the Beneath the Surface "Deep Dive" Unit 3 activity book, readers can learn all about ghost nets -- a true horror story from the deep. As a special *Halloween treat*, click here for free access now through November 11, with more than 25 pages of STEAM exercises designed especially for middle readers, ages 10-13.
Created to meet NGSS7 objectives, readers can learn all about the real-life problems and solutions that inspired the climactic events in the first book of The Blue Marble Series, Beneath the Surface.
Hope you enjoy it and have a very HAPPY HALLOWEEN
