On July 5, 2025 no matter where you are in the world, you can help us protect ocean life.

July, 5th 2025 is global ‘No Butts Day’, an action that first started in the Netherlands in 2019. It is coordinated by Bernadette Hakken (‘Het Peukenmeisje’) of the Dutch ‘Plastic Cigarette Butt Collective’ in conjunction with NGO Fair Resource Foundation.

The purpose of the event is to raise awareness about the huge amount of cigarette butts that end up in the environment, and to inspire manufacturers and policymakers to take action. Around the world, thousands of volunteers will collect hundreds of thousands of plastic cigarette butts from their local streets, parks and waterways.

Plastic Free Seas and "大便妹，學環保。" are joining forces to promote this event in HK, but you can participate from anywhere around the world.

WHAT TO DO

1. Pick a location - outside a shopping mall, on a street, on a trail, at the beach, anywhere you can find cigarette butts. Collect them in a bag or a container using gloves or tongs.

   
   

2. Count the butts at the end of your cleanup and take a photo of the participants and the butts (or just the butts). It's as easy as that!

   
   

3. Please share your details below, including: where you collected the butts, number of participants and number collected. We will pass on this information to the global organisers at the end of the day so please upload straight away after the action.
